Lucas is our northern edge and we work it deliberately rather than opportunistically. Having somebody local who is already cleared is the difference between us taking a case here and passing on it.
Getting around. I-75, I-475 and I-280 make Toledo easy to cross. Sylvania to downtown is fifteen minutes, Maumee about the same.

Where the work actually happens in Lucas County
A good part of this job is getting somebody out of the house and into their own community. Knowing the area is a real advantage, and if you already know these places you are ahead before you start. In Lucas County that regularly means:
- The Toledo Zoo, one of the best in the country
- The Toledo Museum of Art, free to enter
- Metroparks Toledo, especially Wildwood and Side Cut
- Maumee Bay State Park and the lakeshore
- International Park and the riverfront
- The Toledo Library system
Plus the ordinary things that matter just as much. The grocery run, the barber, the pharmacy, the appointment somebody was dreading. You are not an activities coordinator. You are the person who makes an ordinary week possible.

Referrals here come to us through Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the statewide system. We do not control when a case appears. What we do control is whether we already have somebody local, cleared and ready when it does, which is the entire reason this page exists.

We would far rather pay properly and keep somebody for years than churn through people the way much of this industry does. A medication certification moves you up the range and opens the better paid placements.

Requirements
- DODD eight hour orientation certificate, or willingness to complete it
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle and current auto insurance
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Social Security card, for I-9 verification
- Experience as a DSP, STNA, HHA, caregiver, home health aide or personal care aide is welcome. We also train the right person
